4^th July 2011 – Metallic Glasses: A Route to Exceptional Strength and Toughness.

Professor Lindsay Greer from the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, will be giving a talk on Metallic Glasses this evening at 7 pm in the Royal Irish Academy. Topics for discussion will include past research as well as recent advances related to the modification of the mechanical properties of this extremely intriguing material.

CECAM, Dublin, July 4th - 6th 2011

CECAM (Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire) is a European organization devoted to the promotion of fundamental research on advanced computational methods and to their application to important problems in frontier areas of science and technology. In July CECAM will be hosting "MultiScale Modelling of Amorphous Materials: from Structure to Mechanical Properties", a workshop that will focus on a number of critical theoretical questions and experimental challenges that are important to the condensed matter community in general, and the glass community in particular.
